Rob Dean

Thanks to Paul @ The Japan Website for the pic!

Joined Japan in 1976 and left in 1981, after feeling increasingly under-used as the group moved away from guitars and more towards using synthesisers. He has remained friends with the ex-Japan members but apart from appearing on a few recordings with them, Sinead O'Connor and groups from Australia and the USA (Dean travelled extensively in the 80's), he has lived outside the music industry. For the last 8 years he has lived an idyllic life in Costa Rica, first running some accomodation for trekkers, more recently working as a tour guide, and also as an artist (for which he is gaining some acclaim). He is an expert on the birds of Costa Rica and is chairman of the Costa Rican Bird Club. Information courtesy of Debi Zornes.
