Transcript of the Gary Numan 97X Chat on January 30, 2001. Gary Numan hello everyone and thanks for showing up.... any questions? t3rry Hi Gary, will your new BBC session be released on CD? Gary Numan i don't think so. it's a bbc decision, and they often do it years later. it's not planned as yet. Valerium Question: We miss you here in Scotland. Why have you not been up here for so long (last time was Exile tour 1997). You always get a superb reception and the crowd are simply the best on tour. You have a lot of fans up here and we just want more live shows :-) Gary Numan we're going to be there in about three weeks, val! michael magnusson Gary, I was wondering about your harder edge on the latest CD. Gary Numan it's an evolution of the previous two albums. they've been getting much darker and i'm learning how to do it better... this album is a result of that learning. i'm listening to alot of that kind of music. nothing else excites me very much. valeriun GARY WILL THERE BE ANY SONGS FROM DANCE IN THE NEW TOUR??????? Gary Numan it's unlikely because dance has fretless bass and i don't have a player in the current band. the band at the moment can play about half the albums. i have to pick songs from albums that have a similar lineup to the current band. Engineer Gary, what do you think of Sulpher's new stuff and will you be working with them again? EsotericEric I'll have to buy Dance on CD, it's such a gorgeous, deliberate recording that my overplayed vinly copy doesn't do it justice. BIUEYES WHAT TO SAY HAPPY EARLY 43 BIRTHDAY TO YOU FROM AT BAND "WEEN" Gary Numan i'm a big fan actually, which is why i got them to work on my album. i probably would work with them again, it's one of those decsions where it's difficult to decide on. they have a sound i like... it depends on if we can evolve and do something different. Jimmy Gary is the band the same lineup as the Exile tour? Gary Numan yes, it's the same. the only difference is that david brooks now plays bass as well as keyboards. Daz uk who would you say was the most influence when you recorded Pure? Craig D wAZZUP GARY Prisonmoon Hello Gary Gary Numan sulpher... the deftones, nine inch nails, curve and marilyn manson... that's about it , i think. snap-snap Hi Gary, any news on the John Peel session(s). When are you actually doing this? (or has this already been talked about??) numanpaul There is a lot of love out here for you gary!! Gary Numan we're doing it feb 7. i've got a competition running on my website for people who want to go along. it's in london (www.numan.co.uk) snap-snap Cool, thanx. GrahamUK On the new edition of Friends I have only heard it when you play it live, is there any chance releasing on a album or on a extra track when you release your next single, and what song are you going to release as a single/ Gary Numan the version of friends that we used to do is now a new song on pure. so i won't be doing the friends song anymore and it won't be on an album. the next single is a track called 'listen to my voice.' numanpaul gary will you be doing any more signings on this tour? would love another autograph!! Gary Numan at the end of every show i always wait by the bus and sign everything for everyone who wants it. i believe the record company is setting up signings at record stores along the tour... there will be plenty of opportunities! Jimmy I enjoyed your autobiography so much. Part 2 in the makings at all? Gary Numan i will do another one, but not for several years yet. i'd like to wait for a bit more success so i have something to write about. jorgem i love you gary! dawnrazor_uk Have you ever considered or been asked to play at any of the European Goth festivals ? Gary Numan one or two of the smaller ones. i did a festival in belgium called eurorock a few years ago. it's not something i'm really mad about doing. i like to be a bit broader than that... festivals that have a wider variety of music than just goth. numan_fan_lee i wanted to know if there will be any new songs being played on the tour Gary Numan no. i haven't had the time to write any! since i finished the album, i've been touring and doing a huge amount of promotion for the record. i've only spent two days in the studio since pure... we were making an audio program for the tour. there will be new versions of old songs. Craig Your great passion used to be your planes, do you fly much these days and do you have your old formation plane? GrahamUK i would like to say a very very big thank you for Pure its a brillant album, your a genius numan_fan_lee thank u so much Gary - and happy early birthday to u hope u have a special day..Lee Simeone Gary Numan i've still got the same airplane. i don't fly very much at the moment, been very busy. my teammate was killed in an accident in april. it doesn't feel the same anymore.... most of my friends have been killed in crashes and it's lost some of its appeal. Troy Any further development on working with Billy Corgan? numanpaul Gary, just wanted to let you know that when I was 15 and depressed, I found your music, found a group of fans I could relate to, and you changed my life, will always be loyal!! 21 years later love your music as much as ever!! Gary Numan wrote to billy a short while ago. really, it's a case of finding the time we can both put aside. we're thinking of putting a band together... just a side project. Tracks Hi gary, any news on the Afrika Bambaataa "Metal " track ? Gary Numan nothing at all on that yet. i'm still waiting to hear when he wants to start. Daz uk pure, what a cd, moody atmospherics make it an all time great, love the lyrics too. michael magnusson if billy corgan doesn't work out, ring me up... ;) numan_fan_lee I liked Exile very much, i like pure too but will u return to the exhile style? - Lee (UK) Gary Numan i don't think the two are that different. pure is more dynamic and aggressive and i prefer it to exile. if anything, the next one will be a harder, heavier version of pure. but i think they're quite similar anyway. BIUEYES WHO WOULD WIN IN A FIGHT YOU OR JOHNNY ROTTEN? Gary Numan johnny rotten. most people wouldn't be in a fight with me .... other than me. it depends on if they could catch me! REPLICESS Gary, do you see yourself working with MANSON (Kimberley-UK) Gary Numan that would be cool. i went to see him recently in london and it was fantastic! the best i've seen him. he came onstage with me in 90 in los angeles and that was very cool. Gregster is there a recording of that LA show? Gary Numan no recording. there was some video shot, which i think cleopatra (the record company) has... i've never seen it. Jimmy Gary, we really enjoyed your concerts in the states and cannot wait for your return. Which is your favorite song to perform live? Least favorite? michael magnusson good question Jimmy... Jimmy thanks, that was really from my wife, Anabel. Gary Numan my favorite is a new song called rip... there's two - my jesus is in there, too. i think the least favorite would have to be cars. i've done it so much, it's hard to get excited. EsotericEric What's the biggest difference between your audience of "the zeroes" vs. the 80's...not counting age of course...I'm 20 years older, too! t3rry Bravo for telling VH1 no on "Cars" REPLICESS I don't think you should feel obliged to do 'CARS' Gary (Kimberley-UK) dawnrazor_uk why continue to play Cars live if you are bored with it ? a newer song could fit in there instead GrahamUK I'm sorry to say Gary but I agree with you, Cars WAS a great song, but your present stuff from Sacrifce, Exile and Pure are a hek a lot better, will you play VOIX for me at the Southampton gig? Gary Numan it's difficult to say. i don't really get to know the audience in any depth. the only obvious difference to me is that the audience in the 80's used to look like me. you don't get that as much now... they look like marilyn manson. it looks good now. Craig My mum can't believe I'm still into Numan, what 20 years on can't your Mum believe your still into? Gary Numan we still play cars because millions of people pay money for tickets to hear that song. i'm not bored with it, it's just one of my least favorites to do. Manic Would you ever consider having a tattoo? (Numan related of course ;-D) Gary Numan i'm not into anything now that i was into 20 years ago. my tastes have evolved alot over the years. i think my mum's given up on me. Gary Numan i would, if it weren't for the pain. if it didn't hurt, i'd have lots. i think they look fantastic, and i like them alot... i can't stand pain. numanpaul gary, what great live shows have you seen lately? sneetchy joe gary - I named my first child after you --Gary Numan Melchindo Gary Numan manson (very recently), nine inch nails when they last came to london... there's a new band called grand theft audio -- they're great live. really really good. Gregster Is this as weird for you as it is for us? Gary Numan thanks very much... i'm not sure the kid's going to be thankful for that. dawnrazor_uk A question from my girlfriend, she would like to know where you get your long coats from ! numanpaul Gary...thank you for doing this...this is fantastic!!! Feels like we are all sitting in the same room...sort of! Gary Numan there's a woman called sonda who makes them. she works at stables in camden market in london. snap-snap Is there a famous person who you've yet to meet that you'd quite like to meet?? Gary Numan not really... i don't particularly want to meet any famous people. i would have like to have met elvis. john wayne -- i love john wayne! LordFox Gary ...are you still bitter about the lack of airplay you received? :-) Gary Numan not bitter, just disappointed. Gary Numan thanks to everyone for taking the time -- it's very appreciated. i hope to see everyone on the tour soon! Copyright 2001, Balogh Broadcasting Company, Inc. All Rights Reserved
